Dub Qawwali

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Gaudi - Bethe Bethe Kese Kese

A bit of a detour from the usual revue fare, but I’ve been needing some more relaxed music with less of a bullets, booze, and booty drive.  I don’t have a clue what this song is about, but most likely how God made a beautiful world for us to enjoy and be happy together.  Gaudi did series of dub remixes of NFAK songs, collected in a fine album called Dub Qawwali, named for the brand of devotional Sufi music that Pakistan’s Elvis gave us.  Sufism is one of the most striking religious groups that I have encountered, and counts among its practictioners the great Muhammad Ali.  I was fortunate to visit Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi’s tomb last year in Konya, which to me was much more moving than Ataturk’s faux sarcophagus in Anitkabir (pardon arkadeslar), or the somewhat dubious tomb of the prophet Job near Salalah.  George Washington’s final resting place at Mount Vernon, on the other hand, was also a quasi-religious experience.

If you’re the visual type, here is a link for a somewhat average music video.
